3/4th cups of tomato puree
3/4th cups of finely chopped onions.
3 tablespoons of well chopped coriander leaves
2 tablespoons of Pav bhaaji powder
½ cups of boiled green peas
2 cups of boiled potatoes
Method of cooking
The procedure of making pav bhaji is relatively simple. Start preparing the bhaaji by heating the butter in a spacious kadhai. Right after that, add the oil and the cumin seeds. When the cumin seeds start crackling, add the garlic and the chilli paste. Cook with these ingredients and sauté the entire thing for 2-3 minutes. Make sure that you do the cooking on a medium flame. High flame may burn the cumin seeds and leave a bitter after-taste.
After cooking this paste moderately for 2-3 minutes, add the diced onions. Continue with the sauté and stir the mixture from time to time. Now, add the capsicum and cook for two minutes more. Continue cooking on a medium flame and add both the diced tomatoes and the tomato puree to the paste. You can now use a potato masher to mash the tomatoes and make the paste thicker. Cook well for about 5-6 minutes until the mixture becomes thick.
Now, add a dash of salt and chopped green chillis to the bhaaji. Right after this, add the pav bhaaji masala and cook well for about 3 minutes. While you do this, ask someone to help you mash the green peas and the potatoes. The potatoes need to be de-skinned and then mashed. As soon as the mashed green peas and the potatoes are ready, add them to the pav bhaaji paste and cook the entire thing with half cup of water. Continue cooking for 2-3 minutes while using a masher to mash the paste.
Now, add a dash of coriander to the bhaaji and mix it well. Cook this for a minute more. Well, your bhaaji is now ready to be served.
After preparing the bhaaji, you have to now get the paavs ready. In order to do this, simply get a large tava heated. Now, add 8-10 teaspoons of butter to the tava. Cook on a medium flame and ensure that the butter does not burn. As soon as the butter is heated, place the paavs on the tava and toast them well. Cook them until both sides turn light brown and crispy. Sprinkle salt and pav bhaji powder after the paavs are toasted.
Well, now that your paav and bhaaji are prepared, simply serve them together with a dash of lemon and a scoop of butter. This meal will surely entice your taste buds.
