Har Ki Dun Trek

Situated below the Fateh Parvat, the Har ki Dun (valley of Gods) trek is a relatively easy one and one of the most beautiful ones in the Himalayas of Gharwal. Trekkers prefer to go via the Govind National Park. The beautiful birds, insects, and animals seen are a real sight to behold. You may be lucky to see the musk deer, wild goats and many more in addition to various glaciers, streams, and meadows and forests. Due to the trek being an easy one, it can be undertaken by anyone who is relatively fit.

DAY 1: Arrival at Sankri

We usually reach Sankri by evening. Depending upon whether we start from Rishikesh or Dehradun, the time may wary a bit. Sankri is located at an altitude of 2000m.After reaching; we rest and do some local sightseeing. About a 5 hours drive from Rishikesh, and about a 7 hour drive from Dehradun, Sankri is full of the snowy peaks of the Himalayan Mountains. Staying in the camp at night, under the canopy of stars if the icing on the cake. Travel And Trekking in Uttrakhand

DAY 2: Sankri to Seema via Taluka

Early in the morning, we start our day with a hearty breakfast and some chai. After which , the trek to Taluka commences. Taluka is a small settlement around 4 hours (12 km) away. Lunch will be in Taluka. Some rest and we re-start our journey to reach Seema at 14 km and an altitude of 2700m. As you walk through the mountains, you will be amazed at the site of a number of wild flowers; rose, deodar and chestnut to mane a few. We can also divide this trek into two days as 26 km may be too much for some trekkers. Then we spend two nights, one at Sankri and the other in Taluka. As we approach Taluka we can also stop to view a wonderful waterfall.

DAY 3: Taluka to Osla

Coming to Osla which is another small settlement in the heart of the Himalayas, we see wildlife amongst us. The sights of seeing the elusive leopard, musk deer and wild boar will make you click a few pictures. Stopping at Dhatmir for rest and lunch, we again walk amongst the green forests , seeing flowers all around, sprinkled with butterflies. You may also see some wild orchids blooming in season. At night we rest in our camps, after dinner.

DAY 4: Osla to Har Ki Dun

A day of reckoning,, we pack up at Osla and finally move towards Har Ki Dun, our destination for the day. Around 11 km, from Osla, Har ki Dun is known as the Valley of the Gods. It will take us about 5 hours to reach there. Again you will encounter, apart form the scenic views that you usually see in this terrain, some lovely and wonderful glaciers at an altitude of 6200 m. They are the Swargarohini and the Juandar glaciers. Set up the camping site and rest as we prepare ourselves for the Himalayan experience. We spend time watching the breathtaking scenes of the meadows, lined with mountain streams, so many species of birds and animals. We can laze a little as we watch the sun setting in the background of the wonderfully majestic Himalayan mountain range.

DAY 5: Har Ki Dun to Osla

We proceed today on our journey back to Osla. If the trekkers feel they have the energy and if the weather is good, we can also go to Taluka. You will feel quite comfortable with the route now and will have a greater appreciation of the Himalayan beauty.  Shortcuts are possible, too and can be undertaken, but they might be difficult for some trekkers.

DAY 6: Osla to Sankri

Depending on what our previous stop was, we reach Sankri. If we stopped at Osla, we will reach Sankri on about 8-9 hours. As we start quite early in the morning, we can reach Sankri by evening, and set up the camping at the camping site. Our last day in camping in the Himalayas, and we would surely want to make it memorable. We do this by setting up a bonfire and enjoying the little time left in the lap of the Himalayas.

DAY 7: Drive back to Rishikesh, Dehradun etc.

We then say good bye to the beauty around as we approach our homeward destinations.
