Chandra Taal To Samudri Taapu Trek
Here is a short but tough trek you can undertake. The Samudri Taapu trek starting from Chandra Taal at an altitude of about 4300 m, this is considered a rough terrain trek. Amongst the many origins of Chandra river, Samudri Taapu is one of them. The Chandra River flows through the Spiti Valley before it becomes one with the mighty Chenab river. It is an ideal trek if you love adventure and want to have a short but somewhat tough trek.
Walking from the Chander Taal , we trek along the Chandra River, as it flows to the left side. The terrain can be rocky at times and a little unstable, and is also laced with streams and ridges. You may meet some Gaddi shepherds on the way. As we walk for about 4-5 hours, we reach the Chandra river origin at the end of the ridge. We halt here for lunch. After some rest, we can cross the small plateau and set up the camp site at a little distance from the glacier. As we walk to the glacier, we can explore the area. Sleeping in the tents is an added attraction under the night sky.
DAY 2: Return Trek.
We have two options to come back. A walk back to the same route of the ropeway , the local shepherds use. The ropeway can be dangerous at times and is not recommended especially if you are alone or carrying a heavy load. Then, we climb a dry waterfall, active only during the rainy season. We walk back to our camp in about 60-70 minutes. There is also the option of spending a day in the camp and spend a little more time in the area.
